Mahindra's SUV May Come With The Name Thar Armada: Company Trademarks 7 Names For 5-Door Version Of Thar, Competition With Maruti Jimny

Mahindra & Mahindra is preparing to launch a 5-door version of its popular off-road SUV Thar in 2024. Currently, the company is searching for a new name. For this, Mahindra has recently trademarked 7 names.

These include Thar Armada, Cult, Rex, Savannah, Roxx, Gladius, and Centurion. Of these, the bigger Thar Armada is more likely, because Mahindra Armada, launched in 1993, was a popular SUV of the company.

Many versions of it can be launched next year. In such a situation, there is a possibility that the 7 trademarked names may also be for its different variants. Its starting price may be around Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). In the segment, it will compete with Maruti Jimny and the upcoming 5-door Force Gurkha.

The new SUV will come with Thar's traditional boxy profile

Talking about the design of the upcoming 5-door Mahindra Thar SUV, it will come with a traditional boxy profile like the existing 3-door Thar, but any changes will be seen in it. The SUV will get a new grille design, round-shaped advanced LED headlamps, vertical taillamps, newly designed bumpers, new alloy wheels, a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, and a flat roof.

These new features will be available in 5-door Thar

The cabin of the latest car is also expected to get safety features like a single pane sunroof, a large 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, connected car technology, a front armrest, a new steering wheel, and ADAS with ceiling-mounted speakers.

5-door Mahindra Thar: Expected engine options

Talking about performance, the 5-door Thar can get two engine options. It may have a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel unit and a 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged petrol unit, like the 3-door Thar.

The power and torque outputs may be different from the 3-door Thar, as the upcoming 5-door Thar will be much larger. Transmission options will include 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearboxes. Apart from this, the SUV will have the option of both 4×2 and 4×4 drivetrain.
